INTERVIEW WITH GRADE 11 - 12 BIOLOGY TEACHER

To introduce students to more general information about the content and what is to be learned in the biology program, this interview with Mr. Driscoll will be centered around how biology works, and any expected activities.

The first question asked was, "What is the biology subject about?"

For Biology in Grade 11, students learn a lot about:

- Classifying living things and how they function

- Researching about DNA in more detail than former years

For Biology in Grade 12:

- Focus more specifically on humans

- How human body systems function

"What will students do in this class (Ex. Labs)?"

The two main focuses in Grade 11 are:

- Dissections to view internal anatomy

- Studying models of DNA

"What will students learn in this subject in terms of knowledge?"

As mentioned before, students learn a lot about DNA, and all about groups of creatures on Earth, which students tend to prefer learning about.

"What is your teaching style?"

Since there is so much content in science courses, trying to engage in a student's curiosity is an effective way to get a student to learn, and get interested in the material.

Telling stories makes it more likely that a student will remember, and hands-on activities are effective in keeping a student's interest.

In Grade 12, students would most likely perform even more dissections to see similar organs that could in some way resemble a human body's.

"What do students usually struggle with?"

- Vocabulary words and terms

"Are there any special equipment required in biology?"

- Safety wear anytime a class requiers a lab

- Microscopes

- Dissection tools

"How does biology help students in the future?"

Although you might not use the knowledge from biology in a day-to-day job, it can be intriguing to know how humans interact and with different species.

This concludes the end of the article.
