INTRODUCTION
Chemistry is the study of:

- Atoms and their functions
-Different ways matter combines with each other
- Chemical reactions and compositions

Chemistry forms the basis for biology, physics, and medicine.

Science 8 courses cover themes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth science.
Biology:
- Characteristics of living things
- Photosynthesis and cellular respiration
Chemistry:
- Kinetic molecular theory
- Atomic theory and subatomic particles
- Properties of matter, elements, compounds, and mixtures
Physics:
- Electromagnetic radiation
- Mirrors, lenses, human vision
- Energy transfer (particles and waves)
SCIENCE 8
Chemistry 11 builds foundational knowledge in key topics including quantum theory, VSEPR, Lewis structures, intermolecular forces, acid-base chemistry, and gas laws.

Skills developed include:
- Mathematical skills (Problem-solving, unit conversions, quantitative analysis)
- Inquiry and application (Connecting chemistry to daily life, and environmental issues)
CHEMISTRY 11
Science 9 courses covers the same main units in Science 8, but more in depth.
Biology:
- Cell division (Meiosis and mitosis)
- Introduction to genetics
Chemistry:
- Periodic table
- Atomic structures
- Chemical bonding
Physics:
- Static and current electricity
- Electric circuits
Earth and Space Science:
- Earth's natural cycles and energy flows
SCIENCE 9
Science 10 teaches the four main units as Science 8 and 9, but with more focus on scientific inquiry skills and how these areas interconnect.
Biology:
- DNA structure and functions
- Mechanisms of diversity
Chemistry:
- Acid-base chemistry
- Energy changes in fossil fuels and reactions
- Forces, motion, electricity, and currents
Physics:
- Conservation of energy
- Nuclear energy and radiation
SCIENCE 10
Chemistry 12 picks up after Chemistry 11's key topics, typically focusing on deeper understanding of core concepts from Chemistry 11, exploring Reaction Kinetics (rates), Dynamic Equilibrium, Solubility, Acids & Bases, and Electrochemistry.

Core units and concepts:
- Rate of Reaction
- Dynamic equilibrium
- Acid-Base chemistry
- Solubility and solubility equilibria
- Electrochemistry
CHEMISTRY 12
AP Chemistry 12 covers core concepts of a first-year college chemistry course, focusing on atomic structure, bonding, states of matter, stoichiometry, reaction types, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium (especially acid-base), and electrochemistry.

Core units and topics:
- Atomic structure and properties
- Chemical reactions
- Kinetics
- Thermodynamics
- Equilibrium
- Acids and bases
