MATH ARTICLE 3

INTERVIEW WITH INCENTIVE GRADE 8-9 MATH TEACHER

To start, the first few questions asked are orientated on the frequency of assignments, homework, tests and quizzes. Such as the first question asked was, "How often are tests and quizzes given out?"

Mr. Kwan responded that the amount is determined based on what unit his class is learning. However, the base expectation is that the students are evaluated once every week.

Second, "How often is homework given, and which textbooks do each of your classes take?"

He answered that homework is assigned every day regardless of unit, and the textbooks used are "Theory Problems" by Mickelson.

Then to gain a better understanding on how he expects his students to perform, "How should students prepare for exams and tests?"

His advice was to keep track of the due date, because he usually notifies his students of the assessment dates beforehand, and revise the material that the students were learning, and make sure not to procrastinate and leave the studying for last minute.

Pinpointing where students struggle the most, the next question asked was "What common mistakes do students usually make in this course?

Which he answered students more frequently make mistakes while solving foundation computation questions.

Speaking more generally about assignments and work, "How often are new concepts introduced?" New concepts should be introduced everyday, unless it is a strict test day, in each unit every time a lesson is taught.

"Will assignments require group work?" For the most part, whether group work is to be assigned is determined on which unit.

Now moving onto any required tools for this course, "Are calculators required for this course?" Calculators are not required, but they can be helpful.

"Are online tools required for this course?" Microsoft teams are required to refer to for usual use like answer sheets and upcoming assignments.

Finally, "What major unit does this course include?"

This course mainly includes units such as polynomials, linear equations, rational number, exponent laws, linear equation, similarity of shapes, intro to statistics, income, budget and interest.

This concludes end of the article.

This interview with Mr. Kwan will go over common questions students may have about math such as questions regarding tests and quizzes, homework, assignments, concepts, and major units the class will be focused on.
